Its week 5 already. The assignment given is getting tougher and tougher. And assignments from other subjects also given and approaching its deadline. When I look and read through the proforma course, I can say "Now, I'm in trouble!". I have difficulty in trying to understand what does the proforma course wants.
What we were asked to do? - RESEARCH PROCESS.
We have to study on educational research process through websites given. They are:

- managementhelp.org/businessresearch/questionnaires.htm
Apart from that, we were told to do Literature Review. They are:

- 2 journal articles in from UKM subscription research databases, 1 article from google scholar that relate to our topic (original and licensed software)
- 1 books,google.com (also related to our topic : O & L software)
- Discuss with partner in FBgroup
- Share with partner.
We have to study on Plagiarism. The websites are:

I took some time to find and do the research about this assignment. I spent most of my time searching for an article from google scholar and a book from books.google.com. Hours and hours, and days after days, finally I found these:
- http://aisel.aisnet.org/jais/vol11/iss11/2/ - (google scholar)
Actually I got a lot on this area. However, I just chose the best ones.
***For your information, my partner and I divided our work among ourselves, she did the research on articles from the UKM database.***
And she found out these:
P/S: Honestly, I had difficulties in searching the articles. Most of the articles that I searched for had to be purchased. That didn’t stop me from not doing my work. I took the ones which are relevant to the assignment topic although its payable.
After doing the research I have to write a report on “what should be done in Malaysia” and the report should cite the reference we use to support my argument. We had to this report using OpenOffice Writer. ( I seriously didn’t know what’s open writer office).
P/S: To know more about the OpenOffice writer, I have to google it. This made me doing this in some time. Why? because I have to download this. Once I downloaded this software, it couldn't be installed in my laptop. I didn't know why everytime I did this assignment, I always faced problems. But this didn't make me give up to keep on trying by myself. Atleast, I knew where my mistake was.. Do you want to know how I managed to download the software?I have to register and sign up for everything and it was FREE! It took some times to download, installed and run it in my laptop. Then, after having such processed, I can run and use the software easily.
Why do we have to download the software? because, our lecturer wants us to use varieties of software instead of using the microsoft office to write a report. She opened up our mind that there's another software alike microsoft word.
Apart from that, before doing the report, we must read and study on plagiarism. Why? To avoid the "cut and paste" issue happened. It mustour original report and we must on references to avoid this to happen.

This is what I did in my report:
Original And Licensed Software Vs Software Piracy In Malaysia
By: Dayangku Siti Nur Amalina Binti Pengiran Haji Mahmud
Nowadays, in this 21st century, majority everyone in this whole world knows how to use computers, mobile phones, ipods, ipads and so on and so forth. From kids to the oldies know how to use these. Since, nowadays everything are done by computer software. Hospitals, offices, high institutions, schools and other organizations using these as their compulsory communication and installing of datas.
Original and Licensed software are most commonly used and installed in the computers and gadgets itself initially. Yet, illegal software which is known as software piracy are also widely used by the public. Its like a newly-trend during this days.
These software piracy is not just an issue in Malaysia itself, but it is a critical global issue too. For example in Brunei Darussalam. There was a survey given to students of higher educational institutions in the Sultanate. A model was made to test them empirically. The result was freakingly shocked. Two-third of the students, more or less 67%, used pirated software. Perhaps, the reason was the illegal and non-original and unlicensed software were free and they were cheaper. Secondly was due to the entertainment. There were lots of shops in Brunei selling the pirated software. Finally, gender, computer experience and ownership of a personal computer, were found to affect students' use of pirated software.
Back to the Malaysian's issue, according to Business Software Alliance, Malaysia software piracy down to 58% but the value of losses has increased up to US$453 Million. The Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism said that the ministry's had launched the piracy initiative to fight this kind of software piracy which named as “Gerak Gempur Cetak Rompak”. Adding to this, he re-assured the Alliance to continue the task in protecting this type of so-called computer crime.
The Business Software Alliance (www.bsa.org) is the only organization was given responsible to promote a safe and legal digital world. It is the voice of the world's commercial software industry and its hardware partners before governments and in the international market place. The members represent one of the fastest growing industries in the world.
As we all know, fighting this kind of crime is very difficult. There are a lot of irresponsible people who did this kind of illegal job. If one group has been ambushed, the others are still outside there. Yet, Malaysia is on the right track to combat this issue. In conjunction to this, there were officers doing this operation. There were 20 licensed factories were asked to close and their licensed were banned due to producing the pirated ones along with the original ones.
According to, ZDNet Asia on June 8, 2005, the pirated software were declined, yet it was still very high. Also, the government of Malaysia were told to established a special intellectual property court to deal with copyright and licensed and other IP infringement cases. This perhaps will be effective to stop the piracy cases and the use of original licensed were improving. Apart from that, the government had to initiate the criminal and civil actions.
Those who are against the law, the offenders anywho, will be fined up to RM20,000 for each illegal copy and/or they will be imprisoned up to 5 years under OPS Tulen 2005 Korporat. The consumers or buyers bought the illegal ones not that they weren't willing to pay. Its just that they don't have the trust of using the products.
From the researched that I've done, most of the people in all over the world, preffered to use the non-original and unlicensed software. The main reasons are software is too expensive and copying the CD will not harm anyone [1]. Also they said that its “faking good” [1]. In my opinion, the responsible people have to give them awareness and the advantages of using the original and licensed software to stop this issue from rising back again.
